The European Cancer Screening and Early Detection Policy Summit was an important milestone for the cancer screening community, bringing together policymakers, health experts, researchers, and patient organizations to focus on one shared goal: saving lives through earlier detection.

Alongside our sister EU4Health projects PRAISE-U (prostate cancer) and SOLACE (lung cancer), TOGAS was proud to contribute to this two-day exchange on how Europe can move from recommendations and pilot projects to screening programmes that are feasible, effective, and fair.

For TOGAS, the focus is clear: supporting gastric cancer prevention and early detection across Europe by generating practical evidence on what works, for whom, and under which conditions. Through pilot studies and stakeholder engagement, TOGAS is helping to address key questions that matter for implementation. Such as participation, communication, equity, follow-up pathways, and how to translate scientific evidence into real-world health systems.

The Summit also created space for valuable peer learning across projects, with discussions on invitation strategies, inclusivity, sustainability, cost-effectiveness, and data systems that can improve quality and outcomes. These conversations reinforce that implementation is not only about technology or guidelines. It’s also about trust, clear information, and ensuring screening reaches people across different backgrounds.

A big thank you to all TOGAS partners for their continued work and contributions, and a special thanks to our partner European Cancer Organisation (ECO) for organising such a timely and impactful event and helping keep cancer screening high on Europe’s policy agenda.
