Digestive Disease Week is the largest international event in USA that brings together doctors, researchers, and academics from the fields of gastroenterology, hepatology, endoscopy, and gastrointestinal surgery.

This year, the event took place both in person and online from May 3 to 6, 2025, and was jointly supported by the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, the American Gastroenterological Association, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract.
During the event, approximately 6,000 abstracts and more than 1,000 lectures were presented on the latest achievements in digestive disease research, medicine, and technology. Special attention was given to a session dedicated to Nobel Prize laureate Barry Marshall, who received this prestigious award in 2005.
The European perspective on this topic was presented by prominent gastroenterologist Peter Malfertheiner, known for his research in digestive diseases, particularly related to Helicobacter pylori infections and gastrointestinal diseases. He has worked in several prestigious medical centers and is active in research, having published numerous scientific papers that contribute to understanding the health of the digestive system.
At the conference, Professor Peter Malfertheiner also mentioned significant research projects led by and involving the Institute of Clinical and Preventive Medicine at the University of Latvia—GISTAR, Eurohelican, and TOGAS—which enhance our understanding of digestive diseases and their treatment.
