On January 25–26, TOGAS consortium members gathered in Rome, Italy, alongside the local scientific committee and the European Helicobacter and Microbiota Study Group (EHMSG), to lay the groundwork for the final TOGAS Conference on September 11, 2025. This high-level event will take place at the Europa Congress Centre within the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore.

During the meeting, we reflected on last year’s successful TOGAS events in Porto and collaborated on designing a powerful program for this year’s conference. The TOGAS project is dedicated to developing gastric cancer prevention guidelines across Europe through:

  • Running pilot studies

  • Gathering feedback from target groups and decision-makers

  • Analyzing the cost-effectiveness of prevention strategies

This year, as Professor Mārcis Leja emphasized, we will present TOGAS findings to key stakeholders—including patients, policymakers, healthcare professionals, and researchers—to generate proposals that will shape new gastric cancer screening guidelines across the EU. Unlike previous years, this final conference will focus heavily on reporting tangible TOGAS results, as many key findings will have been compiled by then.

The conference planning coincided with the EHMSG management group meeting, and for the first time, a dedicated TOGAS session has been included in the EHMSG annual conference agenda. Additionally, the European Helicobacter Registry initiative, led by Javier Gisbert and supported by TOGAS, has grown into a global effort. A special TOGAS session will discuss achievements and future plans in various world regions.

Thank you to everyone who contributed in Rome! Your support is invaluable, and we can’t wait to share more details on the upcoming conference. Together, we can save lives!
